GENOCIDE MEMORIAL DAY

OF THE GREEKS OF PONTUS

For the Day of Remembrance of the Pontic Greeks Genocide, the following events will take place on May 24, 2026:

• General flag-raising throughout the territory, from eight in the morning until sunset on May 24, 2026.
• Lighting of all government offices, local authorities, as well as the offices of public entities and banks, during the evening hours of May 24, 2026 until the morning hours of the following day.

TUESDAY, MAY 19, 2026

19:15 Trisagion in memory of the exiled of Pontic Hellenism at the monument "Akritas of Pontus" (Kavala Fish Market).

20:30 Genocide memorial event at Eleftherias Square.

SUNDAY 24 MAY 2026

08:00 Official flag raising at Freedom Square.

09:45 Price presentation by the Ministry of Finance.

10:00 Memorial service for the repose of the Greeks of Pontus, those who were abducted in the Pontic genocide, at the Church of Saint Irene in Kavala, officiated by His Eminence Metropolitan of Philippi, Neapolis and Thassos, Mr. Stefanos. A speech on the genocide of the Greeks of Pontus will be delivered by the Dean of the Faculty of Sciences of the University of Thessaloniki, Prof. Mr. Konstantinos Tarchanidis.

10:45 Memorial Service at the "Akritas tou Pontos" monument (Ichthyoskala area) and Laying of wreaths by the Members of Parliament, the Regional Governor of Eastern Macedonia - Thrace, the Deputy Regional Governor of Kavala, the Mayor of Kavala, the General Commander of the 20th Armored Division, the representative of the Rector of the University of Thessaloniki, the Police Director of Kavala, the Commander of the 2nd Regional Command of the Coast Guard, the Commander of the Kavala Fire Services, representatives of political parties, representatives of Pontian organizations and representatives of legal entities and other organizations wishing to commemorate the anniversary.

Observing a MINUTE OF SILENCE in memory of the gloriously fallen.

Singing of the National Anthem by the Philharmonic Orchestra of the Municipality of Kavala.

20:05 Flag Raising Ceremony at Freedom Square.

Regarding the Rites, the Holy Metropolis of Philippi, Neapolis and Thassos is requested to regulate. Issues concerning the formation, awarding of honors, order, movement of vehicles, etc., are requested to be regulated by the competent Military, Police and Municipal Authorities. We appoint Messrs. Philippia Kochliaridou and Sultana Farina, employees of the Regional Unit of Kavala, as well as an employee to be designated by the Municipal Police of the Municipality of Kavala, as Masters of Ceremonies.
