Significant donation to the Region of Eastern Macedonia and Thrace from the "Ioannis and Panagiota Lambropoulos Foundation"

The Region of Eastern Macedonia and Thrace received a particularly significant donation from the “Ioannis and Panagiota Lampropoulos Foundation”. The acceptance of the donation was jointly signed by the Regional Governor, Mr. Christodoulos Topsidis, and the President of the Foundation, Ms. Voula Lampropoulou, during her visit to the headquarters of the Region, in Komotini, in the presence of Mr. Paschalis Xanthopoulos, artistic director of the “Cultural Center of Eastern Macedonia & Thrace S.A.”.
The donation includes an extremely important collection of objects of Greek culture from the last two centuries, with the aim of creating a permanent exhibition that will be housed in the Art & Thought Center (Manos Hatzidakis House), in Xanthi. It also includes a property in Attica, which will be used exclusively to support the operation of the exhibition.
The exhibits come from all over Greece and the Diaspora: from the Pomak region, Eastern Rumelia, the Black Sea and the Maeotida Lake, where there were Greek colonies, to the Greek-speaking villages of Calabria and Puglia, and even the Kallas tribe in Pakistan. Some of them are rare and unique, while others depict the daily life of the inhabitants, both in the provinces and in the urban centers of Greece.
"We hope that the aesthetics of the Exhibition and the beauty of tradition, which echoes the greatness of modern Greek culture, as well as the space that bears the musical legacy of Manos Hadjidakis, will be a magnet for young and old visitors, Greeks and foreigners, to the historic city of Xanthi," said Ms. Lambropoulou.
For his part, the Regional Governor, Mr. Christodoulos Topsidis, thanked the President of the Foundation and stated: "This donation constitutes an act of high cultural and social symbolism. It essentially strengthens the cultural identity of our Region and creates the conditions for a new, dynamic core of culture in Xanthi. Our goal is to highlight the collection in a modern and extroverted way, so that it becomes a point of reference for the history and tradition of Hellenism, but also a lever for development for the local society."
The donation is managed by the "Cultural Center of Eastern Macedonia & Thrace S.A.", with the exclusive purpose of creating a permanent exhibition on the 2nd floor of the Art & Thought Center (Manos Hatzidakis House), in Xanthi.
At the same time, collaboration with specialized museologists is planned for the scientific curation and proper presentation of the collection, in collaboration with the Foundation, as well as the systematic promotion and visibility of the exhibition to the general public and cultural networks, at a national and international level.
