The two actions of the program "Support for the chronically ill and their caregivers", implemented by the Region of Eastern Macedonia and Thrace, through the Directorate of Public Health and Social Welfare, with the support of Higher Than Everest, in the Regional Unit of Kavala, on November 12 and 16, 2025, attracted great interest.
On Wednesday, November 12, in the hall of the Great Club of the Municipality of Kavala, fellow citizens with chronic diseases and their caregivers gathered and participated in an awareness and information day on issues related to adapted physical exercise, nutrition and psychological support. In a dialogic atmosphere, the topics of the three speakers were developed, Regina Makedou, physical education and sports professional BcS, MSc, PhD(c), Lambrina Doulgeri – dietitian/nutritionist BSc, Msc with specialization in intestinal microbiome, Anna Frantzola, psychologist A.U.T., systemic – family psychotherapist as well as Kiki Tsakaldimi, mountaineer – Motivational Speaker. Particular emphasis was placed on small, gradual changes that can bring about large and substantial results, with truly miraculous psychosomatic benefits in the lives of not only patients, but also the people who care for them.
On Sunday, November 16, the second action of the Program took place with hikes of graded intensity and activities with a continuous goal of activating the positive physical response of all participants regardless of age, gender and pathogenesis. The 60 or so participants toured one of the most beautiful and important parts of Greece in terms of biodiversity, the Paranestian routes of the European E6, in its very special section, between the settlements of Kromnik and Galani, experiencing six hours of absolute physical and mental well-being.
