The Region of Eastern Macedonia and Thrace, through the Directorate of Transport and Communications of the Regional Administration of Rhodopes, is organizing, tomorrow, Tuesday, May 5, 2026, from 10:00 to 14:00, at Irini Square in Komotini, an open event - youth festival, within the framework of the action "Road Safety Week of the Regional Administration of Eastern Macedonia and Thrace / Regional Administration of Rhodopes 2026".
The Regional Governor of Eastern Macedonia and Thrace, Mr. Christodoulos Topsidis, will visit the event site at 11:00 in the morning.
The "Press the Brake at Risk" action is aimed mainly at students and young people, but also at the general public, with the aim of informing and raising awareness on road safety and responsible transportation issues.
The event is designed as an interactive experiential learning festival, in which participants will be able to move freely around thematic activity stations. At each station, basic road safety principles will be presented through practical exercises, simulations and role-playing games, which concern, among other things, the correct behavior of pedestrians and drivers, the use of safety equipment (belt, helmet, reflectors), the perception of danger on the road, as well as the safe use of bicycles. At the same time, interactive quizzes and challenges will be held on the main stage, enhancing participation and learning through play.
Upon entering the venue, participants will receive a special “Safety Pass” (mission card), through which they will collect stamps from the activity stations, encouraging their active participation. Those who complete a certain number of stations will have the opportunity to participate in a prize draw, further enhancing interest and interaction with the event content.
The implementation of the action is carried out in collaboration with local bodies, such as the Komotini Traffic Police and the Youth and Volunteer Center of the Municipality of Komotini Exagono, creating a multi-level learning and information environment.
The main objective of the event is to cultivate road literacy and develop a responsible attitude towards transportation, especially among young people. Through hands-on experience and participation, the aim is to enhance risk perception, prevent road accidents and develop safe behaviors on the road network. At the same time, the action contributes to the promotion of sustainable mobility and to the strengthening of cooperation between local bodies and society.
Participation in the event is free for the public.
Similar events are scheduled to take place in the Municipality of Iasmos, on Friday 15/05/2026 and in the Municipality of Maroneia-Sapon on Monday 18/05/2026.
