The Region's educational and informational actions were published as "Good Practice" in the European Road Safety Charter

The actions of the Region of Eastern Macedonia and Thrace on road safety received significant European recognition, as they were published as "Good Practice" in the European Road Safety Charter.

The relevant proposal was submitted by the General Directorate of Transport and Communications of the AMTH Region, evaluated by the competent group of the European Charter and approved for publication on the largest European civil society platform for road safety.

The European Road Safety Charter, which operates under the supervision and guidance of the European Commission, involves more than 4.000 public and private bodies from across Europe, including the Region of Eastern Macedonia and Thrace.

The recognized "Good Practice" mainly concerns the theoretical and experiential education of primary and secondary school students on road safety and traffic education issues. The actions are carried out both through visits by Regional officials to school units and through the annual organization of Road Safety Weeks in the Regional Units.

Special equipment is used to educate students, such as a crash simulator, bicycles for practical training in traffic education and intoxication simulation glasses. The program is complemented by adult education activities, information days, awareness-raising events and the production of audiovisual material.

The Regional Governor of Eastern Macedonia and Thrace, Christodoulos Topsidis, stated:

"The recognition of our actions as "Good Practice" at the European level is a reward for the systematic effort made by the services and executives of our Region. Above all, however, it strengthens our commitment to continue even more dynamically."

Road safety is not limited to the construction and maintenance of infrastructure. It requires knowledge, prevention, responsibility and correct traffic behavior. By investing in the education of our children, we shape the responsible drivers and citizens of tomorrow. Our goal is for these actions to be constantly expanded and reach not only every school but also the entire society of Eastern Macedonia and Thrace."

The AMTH Region will continue to enrich the registration in the European Road Safety Charter with new actions and available data, while strengthening information, education and prevention initiatives in all Regional Units.
