Book donations from the Region to the libraries of Eastern Macedonia and Thrace

The Culture - Tourism Thematic Unit of the Region of Eastern Macedonia - Thrace, with the initiative it undertook to make book donations, managed to collect and distribute 1420 books to libraries (Public - Primary) schools, institutions and clubs.

The majority of the books were publications of the Region, the former Prefectures, literary publications and were in the warehouses. The books were distributed to the following bodies:

In the Kavala Region

  • Primary Schools of Thassos (140 books)
  • Primary Schools – Middle Schools – High Schools of the Municipality of Kavala (670 books)
  • Eleftheroupoli Public Library (70 books)
  • Kavala Municipal Library (23 books)
  • Mehmet Ali Museum (15 books)
  • Paedopolis (15 books)

In the Rhodope Mountains

  • Komotini Municipal Library (31 books)

In the Drama Region

  • Drama Public Library (50 books)

In the Evros Regional Authority

  • Alexandroupolis Municipal Library (29 books)
  • Municipal Library of Didymoteicho (30 books)
  • Municipal library of Soufli KE.KO.PAP. (33 books)
  • Fera Municipal Library (29 books)
  • Municipal Library of Samothrace (54 books)
  • Evros Regional Educational Associations (35 books)

In the Xanthi Regional Municipality

  • Municipal Library of the House of Letters and Fine Arts (70 books)
  • Stavroupoli Municipal Library (43 books)
  • Abdera Municipal Library (38 books)
  • Library of the Municipality of Myki (12 books and a 32-volume Encyclopedia).

Within a few days, the books for the Xanthi Regional Educational Service will be delivered to the above bodies.

Along with the books, printed and electronic tourist material of the Region of Eastern Macedonia - Thrace was given. The aim of this initiative is to encourage reading, especially among young people, and to raise intra-regional awareness and promote local publications.

This effort was significantly helped by participants in the Community Service Program of the Kavala Regional Government, employees in the regional units, as well as citizens who personally offered their books. The implementation of the initiative was coordinated by the special advisor to the thematic Deputy Regional Governor for Culture and Tourism of the Hellenic Republic of Macedonia, Emilia Evangelou.
